Ohio State vs. Clemson keys to the game

1. Ohio State’s offensive line vs. Clemson’s pass rush

What goes down in the trenches will play a huge role in this game. Led by All-Americans Pat Elflein (center) and Billy Price (right guard), Ohio State is one of the best run-blocking teams in the country. However, the same can’t be said for the line’s pass blocking. The Buckeyes allowed eight sacks against Michigan, and it nearly cost them the game. Right tackle Isaiah Prince has been the main culprit this season when things go wrong, but there have been breakdowns across the line.

Ohio State football

Against Clemson, the Buckeyes will face a huge test. The Tigers rank third nationally in sacks per game (3.54). Their defensive line is an absolute force. Ohio State believes it can fix its offensive line over the course of bowl prep. The Buckeyes’ success depends on it.

2. The turnover battle

If there’s one criticism of Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson that can be made, it’s his interception total. He threw 15 interceptions in 13 games this season. (Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, by comparison, threw five picks in 12 games.) Ohio State’s defense thrives on turnovers, and the Buckeyes will have the opportunity to capitalize.

Watson makes some elite throws, but he also tries to force passes into some windows that he shouldn’t. If the Buckeyes can take away some possessions — or even score on defense — they have to like their odds.

3. Home run plays

In a game between two great teams, big plays matter. The difference could come down to which team is able to break a tackle or gain the separation that leads to a long score. Whichever offense connects on huge gains or long touchdowns against a great defense will put itself in position to win.

There is not a bigger game thus far in college football this season than “The Game” between Ohio State and Michigan. It’s always huge when these two teams wage war on the playing field, but now the stakes are bigger than ever before.

For those that want to watch Ohio State and Michigan on Saturday, the game can be seen on TV on ABC. It can also be watched online via a live stream via the WatchESPN app.

What’s at stake is a likely spot in the playoff. The winner of this game will face Wisconsin and be the heavy favorite to represent the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff. Both of these teams have suffered a loss this season but both feel they have what it takes to win a National Championship.

Ohio State has had plenty of success against the Wolverines lately, but this is the best team Jim Harbaugh has had. Michigan will try to pull off the upset against the road while the Buckeyes try to return to the playoff yet again.

After the first seven weeks of the college football season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are the No. 2 team in the country with College Football Playoff hopes heavily in play. However, Urban Meyer’s group is now getting into the heart of Big Ten play. That could mean roadblocks along the way to the CFP. And like always, playing the Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium always has the potential to be a place where a top team can slip up.

JT Barrett has every bit as phenomenal as expected for Ohio State this season at quarterback. Finally owning the position for himself, he’s accounted for 22 touchdowns (16 passing, six rushing) through just six games. With weapons Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel around him and a defense loaded with more weapons, no one’s denying that this Buckeyes team is for real.

Penn State, however, has a weapon of their own in kicker Joey Julius. Okay, maybe he’s just a kicker that can hit that’s become an internet favorite (he’s still great). However, the Nittany Lions do have legit stars. Running back Saquon Barkley is a force for this Penn State team. Moreover, quarterback Trace McSorley is competent at the very least. Surrounded by white shirts at night in a raucous Beaver Stadium, the home team has enough to make things interesting.

This game will be on in primetime on ABC. Thus, live streaming will be available through WatchESPN. You can access the service online or through the ESPN by logging in with a cable or satellite subscription.

On Saturday night, No. 2 Ohio State will head to Madison, WI, to play No. 8 Wisconsin. This is the marquee game of the Big Ten conference schedule for Oct. 15.

Ohio State comes into this game at 5-0 and with a chance to solidify their No. 2 ranking. Knocking off a top-10 team in Wisconsin would boost their résumé for a potential College Football Playoff spot, especially if they lose one game.

However, based on how the Buckeyes have played, no one but Michigan has been able to stop them. This is despite being labeled as a “young team” coming into the 2016 season. Their only notable test came against Oklahoma, though, who has struggled. Given that Wisconsin is inside their conference, this may be OSU’s biggest test.

The Buckeyes have seen plenty of production from the backfield. This has seen four players cross 300 yards, with the entire group totaling 1,618 yards. Quarterback J.T. Barrett hasn’t been needed as much either since they keep blowing out teams. Wisconsin won’t be easy to defeat, though, so he may have to throw more than his season high of 31 times.

Ohio State Football

Wisconsin started the season unranked, but jumped into the polls after defeating then-No. 5 LSU. They also knocked blew out Michigan State, which may have been one of the shocking moments of the season. The Spartans rarely lose by three-plus touchdowns, but that became the case with this loss two weeks ago.

The Badgers’ offense is by no means dynamic. They’re averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and haven’t crossed 1,000 yards passing. However, their stingy defense has held opponents to a maximum of 17 points through six games. It’s an incredible mark, but one that may not hold up against Ohio State.

Indiana is coming off a major upset win over No. 17 Michigan State and will travel to Columbus with confidence on its side. The Buckeyes have other ideas, however.

Ohio State is demolishing every team in its path to start the season 4-0. The Buckeyes haven’t won a game by less than 21 points (Oklahoma on the road) and Urban Meyer arguably has his most talented team yet.

The young team is led by junior sensation J.T. Barrett and he might be on track to lead the Buckeyes back to the national title game for the second time in three years. He’s becoming a serious Heisman threat, passing for 888 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 205 yards and three more scores.

Ohio State Football

Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel are doing a phenomenal job replacing Ezekiel Elliott. Weber leads the team with 495 yards and seven touchdowns on 7.3 yards per carry while Samuel has 673 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns.

Indiana, on the other hand, is fresh off its best win under Kevin Wilson, arguably. Each season, the Hoosiers seem to come close to a major upset — just ask Michigan and Ohio State last year — but they actually pulled one off this year against No. 17 Michigan State at home.

Richard Lagow had a solid game and he’s been impressive in place of a departed Nate Sudfeld under center. He has passed for 1,278 yards and nine touchdowns, but his six interceptions are a little high, although five came in one game.

Devine Redding leads the run game with 413 yards, but has no touchdowns. In fact, the Hoosiers have just two rushing scores all year. Keep an eye on Nick Westbrook and Ricky Jones in the receiving corps as they could give Ohio State problems.
